Ponte Bisantis of Catanzaro

Catanzaro is the capital of the Calabria region in southern Italy. It is known as the City of the Two Seas because of its location on the isthmus of Catanzaro, separating the Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts at 35 kilometers long, which is also Italy’s narrowest point. It has ancient origins and certain theories traces it to an ancient Greek colony that later became Scolacium. Catanzaro is also known as the city of three v’s which refer to the three distinct features of the city namely Vitaliano, the patron saint; vento (wind) because of the strong winds from the Ionian Sea and La Sila; and velluto (velvet) because of its importance in the manufacturing of silk since the Byzantime times.

“The territory of Catanzaro can rightly be defined as one of the richest in the world in terms of tourism opportunities and cultural heritage. It offers a number of excellent locations for any type of event, and I am really pleased to have shown a summary of them to such qualified professionals. A special thanks from me goes to the Chamber of Commerce of Catanzaro and to the President Daniele Rossi, for his efforts in favor of the incoming in Calabria, which is bearing so much fruit,” states Daniela Corti, event planner and professional wedding planner.

Subsequently the flours are transformed into bread according to ancient recipes and with the use of mother yeast, with the finalization to sweet and savory baked goods.

At the end is an educational farm specific to the production of silk, from silkworms to the finished product.

A section is dedicated to mulberry, silkworm and natural fibers. One area is reserved for natural dyes while another contains the textile laboratory and the display of the color samples.

Pieta by Antonio Gagini (Soverato)
The piece is kept in the church of Maria Santissima Addolorata, dating back to 1521. It is in white Carrarese marble and depicts the Virgin with the dead Christ in her womb. It bears in the face of the Madonna the signs of a profound, very human pain, very far from the model of Michelangelo’s Pietà. Serena is instead the death of Christ.
