After almost three decades since the opening of Restaurant Sissi, Chef Andrea Fenoglio has gone a long way from his small six-table space at Plankenstein Street in Merano into a bigger one with a Michelin star and three hats with Gault Millau at his current address at Galilei Street. Chef Fenoglio is one of the most celebrated chefs in the whole region of South Tyrol (Trentino – Alto Adige) which boasts of 19 Michelin starred restaurants, five of which are located in Merano and its confines.
His cuisine has a constant employment of inventiveness with strength in the quality of the ingredients and deep reservation of connection with traditional dishes. As a result, his dishes are multifarious and invigorating to the palate, reminiscent of classic Italian flavors but always with the freshness of alternative ideas. Great attention is given to the selection of the products which are the protagonists in the kitchen. Service is positively attentive and when the chef is free, he tries to exchange a few words with everyone on the tables creating an amicable atmosphere. These are all the qualities that his regular clients and gastronomic adventurers cherish.
The menu changes along with the variation of the seasonal ingredients which are the protagonists of the chef’s kitchen. There are about 30 to 35 proposals in the menu which are divided among Appetizers (€22), First Course of Pasta and Risotto (€20), Main Course (€32), and Desserts (€12). There are also 3 kinds of Tasting Menus available varying between the number of courses. Il Vostro Menu (€80) has 3 medium-sized courses and a dessert that you choose from the existing menu. The next one is the Cinquepiatti (€85), comprised of 5 surprise courses chosen by the chef served in small sizes and Settepiatti (€95) made of 7 new and unique courses served in extra small portions. The wine list has a fundamental part in the restaurant. With over 400 well-selected labels available in the selection, fifteen are chosen everyday that can be ordered by the glass.
One of his most noteworthy creations is the Spaghetti Omega3 Monograno Felicetti, a pasta dish he created in occasion of the visit of the presidents of Italy and Austria in his restaurant wherein the outstanding taste is owed to the harmonious blending of zucchini and cod liver, using the precious Monogramo Felicetti pasta wherein the single type of wheat is grown at 1,000 meters altitude and watered with fresh mountain spring water.
