Alessandro Rotilio, the third generation of the restaurant Bruno ai Quattro Venti continues what his grandfather and mother believe in serving at their restaurant: genuine cuisine and remaining faithful to tradition without failing to give the quality that Italy is known for. Bruno ai Quattri Venti opened its doors for the first time in 1962 in the Monteverde neighborhood of Rome by Alessandro’s grandfather at Via Dei Quattro Venti, a road that’s named for the good breeze that it usually gets for its elevated position.
With almost 60 years of service the restaurant has become a reference point for food that represents the authenticity of the Italian cuisine. It’s a kind of neighborhood restaurant that welcomes its guests warmly, a place where old timers keep on coming back to and newcomers profess to return to. The restaurant has recently been refurbished and conceptualized into a current design intermixed with the past featuring its historical line of family photos and memorabilia. A spacious space with 50 seats alternating between comfortable armchairs of green velvet and dark brown leather while outdoors, lining the street, it can accommodate 30, amongst trees and hedges.
The kitchen of Bruno ai Quattro Venti gives importance to their pasta dishes and for this reason the selection of the pasta that they use, dry and fresh, are sourced from different trusted pasta makers. Different sauces require distinct pasta for the right characteristics that they give and for this incentive, their dishes come out specially good. A small producer in Salerno in the Campania region provides the pasta with eggs like the fresh egg pasta like the strangozzi, pici and ravioli while for the dry pasta, they rely on the quality of Masciarelli.
Great Italian classics are always available in the menu like the Amatriciana and Cacio e Pepe while some of the pasta dishes proposed in the menu are revisited enriched with some original ingredients to personalize them without losing the tastes of tradition, based on their seasonality. A simple Gricia can be revisited with the addition of fresh figs or Carbonara is intensified with the addition of asparagus and truffles. It’s easy to get lost in the interesting proposals of Bruno ai Quattro Venti, especially when you love traditional Italian food and adventurous in taking in new tastes to marry the ones that you are used to.
The menu has an ample selection of proposals that respect the seasonality of the raw materials. The Appetizers (€6 to €15) have Crostino with Truffles to the interesting showcase of Italian flavors in the Tris of Zucchini Blossoms filled with ricotta and salmon, cacio e pepe, and the classic one of mozzarella and anchovies, as well as Tartare of Tuna and Raw Scampi and Red Shrimp. The options for Pasta and Risotto (€11 to €13) are very interesting like the Durum Wheat Fettuccelle Octopus, Tomatoes and Hazelnuts, or the all-time seafood favorite Spaghetti con le Vongole and when in season, Strangozzi with Vongole and Porcini Mushrooms.
The Main Courses (€14 to €18) of seafood and meat are between classic dishes like Fried Calamari and Shelled Shrimp, Baked Fish like turbot, amberjack and seabream with Potatoes and something different that includes something from the season like Beef Steak with Rocket, Nuts and Pecorino Cheese. The meat are supplied by Lem Carni, an innovative company that has been in the industry since 1971 and buys only Danish and Scottish meat. The desserts made by their pastry chef range from the classic ones like the Tiramisù and Panna Cotta to cakes where the fruits of the season are essential components in the composition. The wine list, with over 80 labels, is a good selection of wines from excellent producers in Italy.
In accordance with the new DPCM Anti-Covid regulations, the restaurant has change its regular opening hours of lunch and dinner (except Mondays) to lunch daily and the possibility to order takeaway.
